Your Therapy Journey

Sessions are designed as a collaborative partnership where you take the lead on the pace. This gentle, supportive environment is focused on helping you feel grounded, empowered, and back in control of your journey.

What is solution-focused hypnotherapy?

Solution-focused hypnotherapy is a modern, collaborative approach that combines practical, goal-focused conversation with deep relaxation. Rather than analysing the past in detail, it helps you focus on your strengths, your preferred future and the small, manageable steps that can support positive change.

How can solution-focused hypnotherapy help?

Solution-focused hypnotherapy helps by focusing on future goals rather than past traumas. By combining psychotherapy and guided trance, it re-wires neural pathways to manage stress, anxiety, and phobias, while boosting confidence and sleep quality.

SFH combines psychotherapy with guided relaxation (hypnosis) to help the brain shift out of anxious, problem-heavy states.
  • The Mind-Body Connection: Trance naturally encourages the brain to produce calming neurotransmitters (like serotonin) while unwinding the nervous system.
  • Forward Momentum: Instead of dredging up painful history, as your therapist, I will ask you to imagine your "preferred future" and take small, achievable steps to reach it.
  • Lasting Practical Tools: It utilises modern neuroscience to help you break negative thought loops and build new, healthy neural pathways.
Key Benefits
  • Reduced Stress & Worry: Alleviates anxiety by calming hyperactive areas of the brain.
  • Better Emotional Regulation: Trains the brain to respond to everyday stressors constructively rather than emotionally reacting.
  • Improved Sleep: SFH uses trance work to guide the brain into a deeply relaxed, restorative state. This process mirrors REM sleep, helping the brain process the day’s events and empty the metaphorical stress bucket. As anxiety decreases and emotional burdens are cleared, you can achieve consistently deep, restful sleep to tackle the next day.

Can hypnotherapy help with anxiety and overthinking?

Solution-Focused Hypnotherapy actively helps you break the cycle of rumination by training your brain to shift out of hyper-focus and into calm, resourceful states. Instead of dwelling on the past, sessions combine goal-oriented coaching with guided relaxation to help you build resilience and control your mental chatter. I talk about this in more detail in my Blog.

Do you offer in-person and online hypnotherapy?

Yes. You can choose in-person appointments in the Warrington and Stockton Heath area, or online hypnotherapy sessions from home. Online sessions are available to clients across Cheshire and the wider UK.

What happens during a session?

1. The Check-in & Progress Update
Your session begins with a gentle conversation about what has been going well. Rather than dwelling on problems, you focus on positive moments, changes, and exceptions (times when the issue was less intense or absent). This helps you recognise and amplify the skills you already possess.
2. The Brain Recap
I will recap practical neuroscience. Explaining exactly how the brain works in relation to your situation—such as how the emotional brain might be triggering stress or anxiety—giving you the clarity and knowledge to understand your responses, and crucially what you can do about it.
3. Setting the Focus
We will look at where you currently are on a scale and clearly outline what you would like to focus on for the day. Then, we'll identify one small step you can take to nudge your score up by 1. This sets actionable, realistic goals and shifts your focus to a preferred future.
4. Guided Hypnosis
You will make yourself comfortable and be guided into a state of relaxed trance. This is a natural, highly focused state of mind—similar to daydreaming—where you remain in complete control. During this phase, your subconscious mind becomes more open to positive suggestions and imagery.
5. Reinforcement and Integration
The final part of the session gently guides you out of hypnosis. Clients often describe this 20-to-25 minute hypnosis block as highly refreshing and relaxing. You will continue to reinforce the work you have been doing by listening to a complimentary hypnotherapy relaxation MP3 at home between sessions, which helps cement your progress.

How long does each session last?

Sessions typically last around 50 minutes. This allows time for the talking therapy element and, if appropriate, the hypnosis or relaxation part of the session.

How many hypnotherapy sessions will I need?

The number of sessions varies depending on what you would like support with and how you respond to the process. Many clients notice positive changes within a short series of sessions, while others prefer longer-term support. We can talk this through during your initial consultation.

Will I be in control during hypnosis?

Yes. Hypnosis is often described as feeling similar to daydreaming, deep relaxation or being absorbed in a book. You remain awake, aware and in control throughout.

How Does Trance Work Improve Sleep?

Trance work is a natural, daydream-like state of focused attention. When applied to sleep, it benefits the brain and body in the following specific ways:
  • Mirrors REM Sleep: Trance replicates the natural processing state that occurs during Rapid Eye Movement (REM) sleep. This allows your mind to take unresolved daily issues and strip away their overwhelming emotional content.
  • Empties the Stress Bucket: By processing daily worries in a safe, relaxed environment, you reduce the "water" or tension building up in your mental stress bucket.
  • Calms the Nervous System: Trance work helps move your brain away from the reactive primitive mind and into the calm, logical pre-frontal cortex.
  • Prepares the Brain for Bed: Listening to your complimentary trance MP3 before bed provides a natural "boost" to your nightly processing. It trains the brain to disengage from racing thoughts and quiet the mind for continuous, high-quality rest.

Will I be able to use what I learn after sessions end?

Absolutely. Rather than relying on traditional "coping mechanisms," the goal is for you to graduate from therapy fully equipped to be your own therapist. You will leave with three core, independent skills:
  • Spotting Exceptions: You will learn to identify moments when your problem could have occurred but didn't, and understand exactly how to recreate those positive windows.
  • Future-Oriented Visualisation: You will master the ability to clearly picture your ideal day, allowing you to take concrete, actionable steps toward your preferred future.
  • Self-Scaling and Self-Complimenting: You will know how to measure your own daily progress and actively validate your own resilience without needing an outside expert.

Are sessions collaborative and tailored to me?

Yes. Therapy works best when we build solutions together. Sessions are designed around your goals, pace and comfort level, with clear communication so you know what to expect. Your feedback helps shape the work throughout.

What happens if my priorities change during therapy?

That is completely fine. Therapy is flexible and can adapt as your needs change. If your focus shifts, sessions can be adjusted so they continue to feel relevant, supportive and useful.

How do I know if this approach is right for me?

If you are ready to take gentle, practical steps towards change, solution-focused hypnotherapy may be a good fit. A free 15-minute consultation gives you the chance to ask questions, talk through what you would like support with and decide whether it feels right for you.

Is everything explained clearly during sessions?

Absolutely. Our sessions are a collaborative, forward-looking space where you are always in the driver’s seat. Solution-Focused Hypnotherapy is a transparent, practical process, and I will always explain exactly how the brain works and how continually taking small, purposeful steps helps you achieve your goals.

How We Ensure Clarity
  • Brain Research Insights: I use clear, everyday language to explain the neuroscience behind your symptoms and how we will resolve them.
  • Goal-Focused Tracking: Every session focuses on your preferred future, ensuring you always know exactly why we are doing a specific exercise.
  • Comfort & Control: During the hypnosis section, you remain fully in control, aware, and able to pause or ask questions at any time.
You are the expert on your own life. My role is to help you access your natural strengths and inner resources, and we will always pace the therapy to fit you perfectly.

Is hypnotherapy a replacement for medical treatment?

No. Hypnotherapy is a complementary therapeutic approach and is not a replacement for medical diagnosis, treatment or advice from a qualified healthcare professional. If you have medical or mental health concerns, please speak with your GP or an appropriate healthcare provider.
